Sodium-ion Batteries

CATL have recently (30/07/2021) announced a new sodium-ion battery.

Sodium-ion batteries are a potential alternative to lithium-ion batteries, the most common battery technology around today.

Sodium-ion batteries have not previously been a viable commercial option due to their comparatively low energy density. In other words much less energy can be stored in a sodium-ion battery than a lithium-ion battery of the same weight. However, sodium-ion batteries beat out lithium-ion in terms of production cost, resource availability, environmental impact, safety and number of charge cycles.
